Welcome to "The Legend of Zelda" section! Here the mythology, stories, background and people of Hyrule will be discussed.

*Note: I am going to use "LoZ: Ocarina of Time" as my main reference, considering thats the time period I usually place Fern.

Mythology

In The Legend of Zelda games, the story speaks of three Goddesses who descended upon the chaos that would be Hyrule and shaped the void into what would be their world. Din, the Goddess of Power, used her strength to sculpt the land to make mountains, riverbeads, plains, all kinds of land masses for the future creatures of their world to live upon. Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom, created the sky and the concepts of law, justice and wisdom so that their creations would not live in confusion and discord. The third, Farore the Goddess of Courage, created all living things that would uphold the law of the land and live upon the world that her sisters had helped create. With their tasks completed they departed from Hyrule and left a token of their endevours, the Triforce, that rested within the Sacred Realm, the exact place where the Goddesses left the world. The Triforce, a powerful and mystical object has the power to grant the beholder one wish, depending if their heart is equally balanced in the ways of power, wisdom and courage. If not, the Triforce would split into three pieces (Triforce of Power, Wisdom and Courage, respectivly) and rest with the ones who hold such attributes (this happened in Ocarina of Time).

Over time the people of Hyrule forgot of the Goddesses and greed possessed many who wanted to find the sacred relic for themselves. For years none were successful, until a man named Ganondorf, King of the Gerudo, came to Hyrule in search of the artifact and its power. His plans were thwarted by a boy who went by the name Link, and a princess named Zelda who both fought for the peace of Hyrule. Link, wielding the Master Sword defeated Ganondorf and in the end he was sealed away in the Sacred Realm, now turned into the Evil Realm where his loyal minions and monsters dwelled. -> The story of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

- I hacked the story up a bit so not to give everything away (go play the gave if you haven't) but this is where everything in "Zelda", as far as timelines are concerned, began. Fern's lifetime takes place after Ocarina of Time with a few years between here and there. Technically she can fit anywhere, but this timeframe is where I usually roleplay Fern. -

Hyrule

I believe that in OoT the people and land are more greatly defined and diverse than in any LoZ game to date. There are Hylians, Gerudo (desert-dwellers), Kokiri (magical children of the forest), Zoras (partically humanoid water creatures), Sheikah (known as "The Shadow Folk" and long protectors of the Royal Family) and Gorons (rock eaters that live on Death Mountain). There are villages, a ranch, Hyrule Castle and its town, a large forest know as the Lost Woods (connected with a smaller part known as Kokiri Forest), Lake Hylia to the south where people go to fish, swim and other such things, plus to the east is the Zora River where past it the Zora's live in their own domain. Not to mention the various temples, hidden grottos and fairy fountains that litter the land. Hyrule is definitely a very rich land of people, cultures and wealth. There are plenty of places to explore and travel to for the ones who enjoy such things, and places are relatively safe (save for the Field of course).

People

As stated before, Hyrule is highly diverse in people. Here I will list them in their own catagories:

Hylian: This group of people is possibly the most dominant in OoT. They usually inhabit villages and towns and are the ones who look the most "elf-like." Pale in skin tone, they have long pointed ears that were said to be given to them by the Goddesses so that they could hear the voices from the heavens. Hylians are also said to have a high affinity with magic, this probably stemming from the same fact as the long ears they possess.

Gerudo: A large tribe consisting mainly of women, it is said that the only male ever born is every hundred years (Ganondorf is their king since he is one of the only males born every hundred years). Dark in skin color with gold eyes and red hair is the typical appearance of any Gerudo, giving each one of them a very exotic look. They live in a type of exile in the desert to the west and have trained themselves to be grim and deadly fighters. They have a reputation of being very good thieves and occasionally visit Hyrule Castle Town for boyfriends, though generally they are not highly accepted or common in Hylian society.

Kokiri: Known as the "Children of the Forest," this group of creatures do not grow into adults or age over time. They stay out of the business of other races and perfer to stay hidden within the deep foliage of their forest. Highly magical beings, their guardian is the Great Deku Tree that has lived almost since the beginning of Hyrule, making the Great Deku Tree a very wise and powerful being.

Zora: A race of beings that live in the water, the Zora are allies to the Royal Family of Hyrule. Doning fins, blue skin and excellent swimming skills they live in a world of water in the east past Zora's River. Their diety, Lord Jabu-Jabu is a large fish-like being that they hold in the highest respect, deeming him as their leader, though they do have a ruler named King Zora.

Sheikah: Perhaps the most mysterious race of them all, the Sheikah are known as the "Shadow Folk," the shadows of the Hylians. Very little is known about them but they have been guarding the Royal Family for years. Mysterious in their ways and are usually pictured as good warriors, their race has gradually disapeared in Hyrule until Impa, Zelda's main guardian, is the only one left in Hyrule.

Goron: Short, brown and pudgy, these creatures are usually gentle in nature and have a strange diet of rocks, rocks, and more rocks! Living on Death Mountain has given them plenty of their "gourmet" rocks they love so much and see no reason to travel from their home often. They are also allies of the Royal Family and Darunia, the leader of the Gorons has close ties to the King of Hyrule.
